Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of Rensselaer County Criminal History. Browsing content, opening a page, or submitting a search means that you accept them. If you disagree with any condition, stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. Rensselaer County Criminal History is privately operated and has no connection to a local, state, or federal agency. The site and its advertising partners do not offer tools for credit decisions, employment screening, tenant screening, insurance underwriting, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This resource points to criminal-record channels in Rensselaer County and New York. It is neither a private investigation service nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is an independent private reference site, not a government office. We do not hold official criminal files, submit documents, conduct an official background check, or retrieve a government record on a visitor's behalf.

The content identifies custodians such as the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office, New York criminal courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Agency access is controlled by New York Freedom of Information Law, court rules, Executive Law § 837, and other applicable law, not by this site's terms. Some pages also connect visitors to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you must not:

  • Use the site in violation of federal, New York, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, or harass a person with information obtained here
  • Use site content for a housing, hiring, lending, or insurance decision
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into any site account, server, or system
  • Deploy a bot, scraper, or other automated collection tool on these pages
  • Interfere with site operation or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use information found here or through a linked service to intimidate, stalk, threaten, harass, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also violate criminal law. New York Correction Law §§ 168-p and 168-q specifically warn against misuse of New York State Sex Offender Registry data. Registry information supports lawful public-safety awareness. It cannot justify vigilante acts, employment blacklisting, housing discrimination, or any other prohibited conduct.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Rensselaer County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and produces no credit report, background check, or consumer report. Its advertising partners do not offer services designed to assess a job applicant, rental application, insurance risk, or creditworthiness. Information from this site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Set an insurance rate or evaluate creditworthiness
  • Choose whether to hire, retain, or dismiss a person
  • Evaluate a prospective renter or housing applicant
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other activity governed by the FCRA

A person who needs a check for a regulated purpose must use a legally authorized channel, such as the applicable New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services process or an FCRA-compliant screening provider.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how a Rensselaer County charge, conviction, warrant, or New York record-sealing rule applies to an individual case. Seek advice about a specific situation from an attorney licensed in New York.

6. No Warranties

All material and functions are offered "as is." We make no promise that:

  • A partner search result will be complete or correct
  • Information will always be accurate, current, or complete
  • Every page will remain free from bugs, errors, or security defects
  • Access will continue without delay, interruption, or outage

Criminal-record status changes as courts file, dismiss, or seal matters and as agencies update their systems. Gaps and delays can occur. Only the originating New York court, Rensselaer County office, or state agency can provide an official statement or record.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to a sheriff, court portal, New York agency, legal-aid organization, or outside search provider. We do not control those destinations. Their content, availability, privacy practices, prices, and terms are their responsibility, so review the destination's conditions before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Rensselaer County Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, logos, graphics, and code. Unless written permission is granted first, you may not reproduce, distribute, alter, or create derivative material from that content.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for harm arising from use of the site. This limit includes harm tied to a decision based on site content or information supplied by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless against claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your site use or your violation of these terms. This obligation includes related costs and reasonable legal fees.

11. Governing Law

New York law governs these terms. A dispute arising from use of the site must be brought in a court located in the State of New York.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions at any time. A revised version becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

We reserve the right to suspend, restrict, or end access without advance notice and for any reason.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in force. The affected language will be modified only to the extent required to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
